This is my personal book cover project for Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend." I've always been drawn to post-apocalyptic themes, so I decided to create a book cover inspired by this universe.
In this project, I delved into the protagonist's perspective, highlighting the discomfort and false sense of security he experiences during all his nights.
I hope this book cover captures the essence of the work and conveys the unique atmosphere of this fiction classic
For those who've delved into the book, can you guess whose face and hand lie concealed in the shadows? Was it a random choice, or does it belong to someone specific from the story? Well, that eerie ambiance from the novel was one of the elements I felt was missing in the 2007 adaptation.
Recreating that spine-tingling atmosphere became a key goal in my project, a tribute to the unsettling essence of the original narrative.
I put together my initial moodboard by diving into Pinterest. I gathered images of '50s books, windows, houses, and all kinds of cool stuff from that era.
In my research, I drew direct inspiration from both the original 1954 book and the 1964 adaptation, 'The Last Man on Earth,' featuring Vincent Price.
Interestingly, I had previously explored the book's descriptions and 1950s book cover representations to create an illustration depicting the protagonist's appearance. You can find this illustration on my Instagram Here
